Coding Quality and Compliance Coordinator Job
Job Description: Is the coding subject matter expert for coding staff, members of the management team, and for other Sections within the Revenue Cycle, as well as multiple areas outside the Revenue Cycle including specific physician practices and the Legal Department. Leads and participates on projects and multi-disciplinary workgroups related to internal quality reviews, compliance initiatives, reporting initiatives, benchmarking, research and analysis, continuous improvement opportunities, and other customer requested projects. Maintains expert knowledge of coding work flow and optimizes use of available technology. Is an expert in navigating the electronic medical record and all supporting information management and billing systems. Actively communicates and presents pertinent information to various audiences. May perform functional activities of the work team. Demonstrates expert job knowledge and applies current coding and billing regulations, policies, processes and procedures with effective decision-making and problem solving skills. Abstracts data in compliance with national, regional, and local policies, and interprets and reviews medical record documentation to assign accurate CPT-4 or ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes for clinic and hospital outpatient cases or ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure codes and MS-DRG for hospital inpatient cases or CPT-4 coding of Evaluation and Management services. Clarifies physician documentation as appropriate. Understands and applies medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Demonstrates knowledge of sequencing diagnoses and procedure codes outlined in the AMA CPT instructions, CPT Assistant, ICD-9-CM Official Coding Guidelines, Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set, CMS guidelines and other resources as applicable. Provides education and support to clinical areas in regard to appropriate documentation and coding of services to achieve accurate billing. Clarifies physician documentation by utilizing facility established query process. Meets established coding and abstracting quality and productivity standards. Basic Qualifications: Associate's Degree in a healthcare related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIT or CCS or CPC, OR Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related program with a minimum of one of the following credentials: RHIA or CCS or CPC, OR Bachelor's Degree in any field with a CCS credential. Minimum of five years CPT-4 surgical coding and/or ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure coding for outpatient and/or inpatient and/or MS-DRG assignment. Other Qualifications: Requires an excellent understanding of CPT-4 surgical coding and/or ICD-9 diagnosis and/or procedure coding and/or MS-DRG assignment. Requires an excellent understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and disease processes. Possesses PC skills, both keyboarding and applications. Leadership experience is required. Knowledge of and experience with the electronic medical record and billing systems required. Experience with direct physician interaction required. The position requires strong personal computer skills including Excel and Word. Familiarity with internal billing systems (MRIS, HealthQuest, Quantim, etc) is preferred. This position also requires strong communication, research and analysis, and project management skills. License or Certification: RHIT or RHIA or CCS or CPC Benefit Eligible: Yes Exemption Status: Exempt Hours/Pay Period: 80 Schedule Details: Monday-Friday, Day Shift Compensation Detail: Salaried - Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every two weeks is approximately $2,072.80, based on a full-time position.
