Combat System Engineer Job in Fredericksburg 22407, Virginia US
Note: This is a contingent position.
This position is located in Fredericksburg, VA, and will provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in support of system engineering, analysis, and planning for combat and warfare system. The position will support Aegis, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) and other surface combatants in test execution and analysis.
U.S. Citizenship required. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance, and will be subject to a US security background investigation (i.e. favorable background investigation / credit score). An active security clearance is highly desirable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs engineering activities leading to successful development, certification and deployment of joint interoperable systems.
- Provides Subject Matter Expertise during fleet events and post event data analysis. Support includes data analysis tool evaluation, post analysis fleet feedback, and fleet recommendations for issue resolution.
- Participation and support in engineering, qualification and demonstration tests at land based test sites including flight test missions at the Pacific Missile Range Facility.
- Provides Tactical Data Link (TDL) expertise during test execution in support of console operations at the Tactical Information Coordinator (TIC) watch station.
- Executes test procedures in accordance with the test plan/test procedures and generate required Test Observation Reports (TORs).
- Coordinates fleet operational reporting to the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Program Manager, Program Executive Offices (PEO's) IWS, PEO C4I, NSWC PHD, NSWCDD, NAVSEA and SPAWAR.
- Provides engineering expertise during testing, analysis and resolution of Strike Force interoperability issues.
- Provides SME in Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) including a comprehensive understanding of deployment architectures and capabilities.
- Provides SME in Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD) including a comprehensive understanding of ABMD architectures and combat system capabilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires five years of general combat systems engineering expertise. General experience refers to prior participation in the engineering design development and testing of combat weapon systems. A combat system includes the sensor, weapon, control, communication and support system for prosecuting the full spectrum of activities required to detect, track, identify, engage and kill hostile targets in multi-warfare environments.
- Candidate must have the ability to assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) Computer Program Change Requests (CPCRs) and TORs
- Must have the ability for written composition of technical documentation.
- Must comprehend technical and test documentation and review for accuracy.
- Proficient in in reviewing and generation of technical documentation.
- Effective communication skills in the English language required (written, verbal, listening) commensurate with responsibilities.
- Proficient in in reviewing and generation of technical documentation.
- Position requires reliable attendance and work will be performed at the TEA Fredericksburg office or at NSWC DD government facilities.
- Ability to operate independently and execute tasking with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge with the development, testing and certification of the AEGIS BMD Combat Systems. This will include assessing AEGIS and/or AEGIS BMD hardware and software components of the Aegis Advanced Capability Builds.
- Knowledge and experience in Air and Missile Defense doctrine, planning and operations.
- Candidate must have an understanding in surface force operations, air defense principles including SSDS and BMC4I systems architectures.
- Ability to travel in support of technical meetings as well as participation in land based and fleet exercises will be required. Travel may include US Navy ship deployment.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in U.S. Navy shipboard TDL systems, including multi-TDL environments and their associated satellite communications equipment.
- Experience in computer system networking and interfacing protocols used in commercial and/or military communications systems.
- Expertise in Aegis Combat Systems console operations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience in the disciplines described above, plus seven years of relevant experience in disciplines described above desired.
