The Commercial Director has overall responsibility for creating and managing all aspects of the European Natural Gas and Power business within the Platts Power sector, including financial performance, investment decisions, creation of new products and overall management of the resource budget. S/he must identify and incorporate the group's strengths and capabilities (benchmark prices, global reach, news and analysis and distribution), as well as data capabilities from external sources, to strategically target end-user market segments, and increase the North American Natural Gas penetration in the market and growing revenue. This position reports to the General Manager of Platts Power and engages with senior management within Platts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide the vision, objectives, strategies, and business goals for European Natural Gas and Power within the Power sector. Manage the group's PL by preparing an annual strategic plan that forms the basis of budget preparation for the following year and three years forward. Set revenue goals and net operating income target. Meet sales and profit targets set in the annual budget cycles.
- Manage human capital resources on the commercial side of the business and coordinate with senior editorial and sales/marketing management in regard to other people resource issues, including, identifying key roles and talent gaps, developing internal talent and sourcing top talent to build quality bench strength.
- Manage the product portfolio by determining product pricing, enhancements, creation and discontinuation of non performing products. Meet product development and product acquisition targets to ensure future growth of the sector portfolio of products.
- Meet with customers to understand their needs and build customer value added solutions.
- Collaborate with senior management to adjust product strategy to address evolving customer, competitive, technological and market conditions
- Monitor emerging market trends, competitive products and customer feedback and ensure internal staff is kept abreast of the same through regular communications and/or targeted training sessions.
Skills
- Broad understanding of global gas and power markets and commodity trading workflows required.
- Successful track record of leading or managing major projects, product marketing or new product development in a publishing or technology environment required.
- Ability to write effective business plans and internal and external communications required.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in strategic and financial analysis.
- Strong process development skills.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior management and speak publicly.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, as well as team-management skills.
- A strong track record of demonstrated senior leadership skills. This will include proven ability to lead and inspire a large number of diverse global staff in various countries to create a unified goal of long-term, sustainable business development that generates high sales and profit increases.
- Ability to translate complex market and customer needs into product strategy and targets and align them with the overall strategy of the group. Influence the overall group strategy as appropriate.
