Over the past 3 years Santander Commercial, Corporate and Business Banking has built a market share of around 5% of the market. This will increase to around 10% following the acquisition of the Rainbow Customer Base from RBS in early 2013.
The Regional Business Centre network is managed by 5 Divisional Managing Directors supported by Regional Directors in each RBC:
- NINES
- London South East
- North
- Midlands
- Thames Valley South West
Working alongside the Regional Directors, Finance, Business Management Strategy, Operations, Risk Service, and HR, the job holder will be responsible for supporting the Divisional Managing Director to deliver the Regional Medium Term Plan, through building and delivering effective performance management analysis and communication.
In addition, the job holder will take responsibility for using market information to inform and develop strategy, working closely with the Divisional Managing Director and wider Management Team in the implementation of strategic and tactical initiatives.
As a Commercial Manager your main responsibilities will be:
- To support the Divisional Managing Director (and wider Regional Management Team) in delivering the Annual Business Plan including:
- Preparation and validation of Medium Term Plans in conjunction with Finance /Business Management Strategy and thereafter cascading and monitoring performance against those budgets.
- Commentary and supporting analysis on progress
- To assist the Divisional Management Team in executing the agreed Performance Management Framework for SCCBB including:
- Analysis of management information including Financial / Contribution / Activity reporting (produced by Finance / BMS, etc.)
- Performance assessment and identifying opportunities for improvement in the performance of the Division (or individual CBCs / Regional Directors / Relationship teams, etc.)
- To plan, implement, monitor and manage a variety of strategic and tactical initiatives at a Regional level and through proactive communication ensure appropriate levels of engagement and achievement across the Regional business e.g. Margin Management
- To prepare internal and external communication on behalf of the Divisional Managing Director including papers for use in a variety of senior stakeholder forums.
- To support the development and implementation of an effective CRM model for Commercial Banking.
- Working with the Divisional Manager Director on strategic / tactical initiatives to build the SME franchise in the Region and to contribute to wider strategy development. In particular, responsibility for driving the Breakthrough Programme is a key part of the Commercial Manager Role.
- To support implementation of operational and organisational change (both tactical and strategic) on a regional basis.
- Budgetary Responsibility - Collective responsibility for delivery of the Regional Medium Term Plan as well as delivery of the Annual Regional Business Plan
- The job holder will be part of a small team and will work closely with other members of the Regional team and with a wide range of Santander stakeholders.
As a Commercial Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- A clear understanding of the Divisional business strategy and markets in which CB will operate.
- A real passion for success and a willingness to take action to correct areas of under-performance through innovative and developmental thinking that establishes a sustainable step change in performance.
- Drive and Commitment - this is a start up business that needs to move quickly and with a passion; a can do and will do approach is paramount.
- An ability to work with a number of internal business partners to establish and implement solutions and ideas quickly and effectively. Ability to develop an in-depth understanding of how Santander works culturally and organisationally.
- Break-through thinking - as a start up business, we will need to find ''blue water'' space to establish ourselves and build a unique profile; an ability to be bold and think ''out of the box'' will be important.
- Knowledge of Santander and experience of the SME market would be beneficial.
The successful candidate will be supporting business centres across the Thames Valley and South West region so must be willing to travel within these regions. Travel to London and Liverpool may also be required. Candidates will ideally be based in the Reading Business centre but could also be based out of Bristol or Exeter.
