The Role Our goal is create Bloomberg commodity functionality which gives the customer information which they can use to make money. We want users to want to come back to Bloomberg functions day after day. The ultimate function in one which users need because it provides something unavailable elsewhere and is fun and powerful to use. The functions should be intuitive to use with little if any training even if the function is complex. Functions should quickly address questions for which the answer changes daily or even more frequently. Project Design - Listening to and being aware of customer needs - Determining if and how Bloomberg can meet those needs and if satisfying an individual customer can be leveraged to satisfy many customers - Looking for and acting on feedback from others inside Bloomberg - Data acquisition - Product design with iterative feedback from beta testers - Training Bloomberg sales on the function and marketing the function - Anticipating, listening to and reacting to customer feedback and suggestions - Rolling out enhancements Industry Knowledge and Contacts The role requires the individual to know the North American power market well and to have deep contacts in the market to stay in touch with market developments and needs. The role requires communicating with users, learning/knowing what users need and then synthesizing this to design financial models which can be used across the market by many users. The role requires the person to know what will sell the Bloomberg product to the North American power market in addition to being a good listener with the ability to know what good financial markets design is and pick up on great customer ideas. The role will involve modeling in excel and other similar applications (such as Matlab) the supply and demand models (such as stack models, switching models, and load models) which exist on the premier trading desks of North American power market traders. The modeler should be prepared to keep ahead of any market developments so as to keep the models updated. The modeler will work for the product manager for power and gas in North America. The modeler will help guide the RD programming and design effort for the models.
