The Global Commodities Research Group analyzes the forces behind the demand and supply of commodities, and produces valuation tools, forecasting, trade recommendations and strategic advice. Research is the foundation for everything J.P. Morgan does for its clients. From up-to-the-minute original trade ideas, to longer-term thematic pieces that explain the financial markets in depth, our mission is to constantly offer new and original ways for investors to build value.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Regional Head of Oil Research Asia, the focus will be on supporting the global team with oil market / refineries research and analysis. The successful candidate possesses the willingness and determination to develop a broad view of the oil industry, and will:
- Develop and maintain fundamental supply/demand data and develop market views based on the data.
- Act as the primary coordinator for Asian oil research data, including organizing, consolidating, and tracking data.
- Use Excel modeling, LP refinery models and statistical programs to analyze data.
- Assist with the drafting and editing of Commodities publications.
- Manage all reporting and metrics, including building spreadsheets.
- Contribute analysis to client-specific analyses and projects as appropriate.
- Create a myriad of ad-hoc presentations and analyses and conduct research for client and internal J.P. Morgan meetings. These ad-hoc projects are dictated by market events and their potential impact on our clients.
- Keep the Research Group up-to-date on relevant news about the oil industry and the markets.
Skills
- BA degree required.
- Very strong analytical skills.
- Excellent data management skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to interact comfortably with business clients and management.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and proactive. Energetic and decisive, with high levels of integrity.
- Strong teamwork and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced trading floor environment.
- Desire to learn about Commodities, and the willingness to display an outsized curiosity about the industry.
- Knowledge of upstream and downstream oil / refineries would be desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate concepts and ideas, both verbally and via documentation, and be able to defend their validity. Strong writing skills required.
- Mandarin language skills are highly desirable.
