Position Description:
Morgan Stanley is seeking a strong Valuation Risk Controller for its Commodities Valuation Risk team. The candidate will gain in-depth knowledge of commodities products and markets, so motivation to understand the business and market valuations is a key component to success in the role. The candidate will also participate in an ongoing independent valuation assessment of the trading desks' positions to provide valuation risk transparency to senior Commodities and Finance management.
The Morgan Stanley Valuation Review Group provides an independent valuation opinion across the entire bandwidth of financial instruments within the firm's sales and trading inventory and investments, ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The group's key clients are senior management in the trading and finance organizations.
Commodities VRG is responsible for the independent valuation of the firm's commodity products. The products covered include physical and financial positions in metals, electricity, natural gas, oil and agricultural products. The group reviews each position valuation, which involves pre-approving the valuation methodologies, testing adherence to such methodologies, comparing the desk marks to external marks/benchmarks, performing valuation analysis where transparent pricing is not available, identifying and resolving potential pricing discrepancies and providing a valuation summary assessment to senior management. The group frequently works with traders, operations, product controllers and market risk.

• Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or a quantitative discipline
• Motivation to understand derivative products, valuation and risk
• Capable of understanding and interpreting technical documentation on new products and models
• Strong analytic, quantitative skills
• Control-minded with strong attention to detail
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work effectively as a member of the team or independently
• Effective in managing relationships at all levels.
• Ability and willingness to adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
Skills Desired:
• Project management experience a plus. Work effectively under pressure when confronted with tight deadlines.
