General Job Objective

Manitowoc Cranes, a global leader in lifting solutions, is seeking a detail-oriented Commodity Manager. The Commodity Manager is responsible for obtaining the most cost effective worldwide and local arrangements for products/services in the machined and fabricated parts commodity by employing skills in market research, negotiation, supplier selection and supplier performance monitoring. This includes coordination and collection of materials requirements from all Manitowoc Crane-Americas operations, for specified strategic commodities. This position will report directly to the Senior Commodity Manager and is based in Shady Grove, PA.

Essential Job Functions

- Obtain insight into market events surrounding machined and fabricated parts. Develop an understanding of the product offerings available, technological developments, and general pricing trends of the market. Accomplish by developing sources of information for markets including world wide supplier base, MCG purchasing groups, trade organizations/associations, trade journals and other periodicals, internet research, labor contract conditions and expirations, and other sources of market news. Seek information on minority and small business suppliers to support procurement objectives in these areas. Document findings for use in supplier negotiation planning efforts.

- Enter negotiation with appropriate suppliers to develop local agreements on pricing, service, and quality levels to be provided. Organize negotiations to include a clear objective, a complete bid package (including any necessary engineering drawings, blueprints and/or specifications), quotes from available suppliers (including warranty and labor reimbursement terms), and necessary input from other MCG- Americas facilities and departments (IPD, manufacturing engineering, production control, quality, product support, etc). Finalize terms and conditions offered by each supplier and perform and document analysis of alternatives for use in the final selection process.

- Identify, evaluate and recommend suppliers to provide specific part(s) according to negotiated terms which minimize the total cost of procurement (to include cost of quality, lead time, and inventory levels) by reviewing supplier offerings with appropriate MCG - Americas operations and departments (e.g. engineering, quality, product support, etc.), and documenting the strengths and weaknesses of each alternative to facilitate the final selection process. Document terms agreed to in the ERP system and communicate to tactical purchasing and planning.

- Review and evaluate supplier performance in terms of price, on time delivery, lead time and quality. Collect input data from other MCG operations, Production Control, Quality, and A/P to performance analysis. Provide performance feedback to suppliers, develop appropriate performance improvement action plans in conjunction with the supplier, and initiate improvement activities including coordination with other departments.

Job Requirements/Working Conditions

- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain or related field required. Graduate level education preferred.

- 2-4 years of progressive experience in material management/logistics/supply chain management required.

- 1-2 years strategic procurement experience required

- ISM and APICS certifications strongly preferred

- Demonstrated understanding of the global manufacturing processes required.

- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.

- Strong negotiating skills using a structured approach is required.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operation instructions, drawings, etc.

- Ability to speak effectively to supplier groups on a daily basis is essential.

- Good problem solving and analytical skills are essential for resolving emergency material needs, identifying the root cause of problems and analyzing supplier performance.

- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks based on business needs is essential.

- Ability to utilize spreadsheet and other PC packages to analyze information, summarize and communicate to other plant personnel is required.
