Commodity Manager

Responsible for purchasing commodities to support Flow’s supply chain. Evaluates vendor process capabilities, cost models, quotes and service proposals to determine the most desirable suppliers. Integrates supply chain best practices and continuous improvement processes. Responsible to provide a 'forward view' on inflation, and determining strategies to mitigate negative impacts. Create appropriate metrics that accurately demonstrate the level of value that is delivered through a commodity management business model. As member of product development teams, work to minimize cost impacts of designs as well as determine creative solutions to design constraints.

• Manage and facilitate all facets of supply management activities for machined parts.
• Evaluates value proposition and competencies selects the most desirable suppliers for machined parts.
• Implement sourcing strategies to support corporate and divisional objectives, providing the company competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies, and services.
• Locate, analyze, and develop a consolidated supplier base to meet current and future commodity needs.
• Create and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement.
• Negotiate and manage contracts and agreements for assigned commodities
• Manage suppliers, cost, quality, and delivery performance.
• Work with Engineering to determine cost effective materials and solutions to design problems
• Matches design tolerances to lowest cost materials solutions where possible
• Implement appropriate sourcing strategies to control the company’s purchased material costs and to assure an adequate source of supply.
• Develop cross-functional teams to understand company-wide needs and evaluate suppliers.
• Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process.
• Contribute to the development of strategies for assigned procurement area to include spend analysis, market and geographic considerations, strategic importance, etc.
• Managing and optimizing supplier performance, including continuous improvement, innovations, obsolescence and reduction in total cost of ownership.
• Maintains and promotes sound relationships with assigned suppliers and the business community
• Manages and coordinates with suppliers during new product development and production roll-out

Requirements:

• Knowledge of procurement principles, theories and processes.
• 2-4 years materials or manufacturing experience
• Understanding of machined parts and machining process in manufacturing environment
• Cross-functional business team environment experience preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead, influence and motivate others.
• Travel May require some domestic and international travel approx. 25%
• Computer literacy as well as intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office products. Experience in ERP/MRP programs a plus.
• Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record in cost reduction and control.
• Previous experience in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing disciplines a plus.

Education and/or Training:
• BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Management or equivalent.
• 2-4 years of progressive procurement experience
• 2-4 years of Engineering or design experience
• CPIM, CRP or Six Sigma certification preferred.
