Communication Technician Job in Ketchikan, Alaska US

PURPOSE:
Perform annual maintenance and 24/7 casualty response on customer local and remote (mountain-top) communications equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide on call response for both local and remote equipment.
• Work with a team during spring/fall to conduct maintenance trips to mountain-top communication sites.
• Work independently when not performing maintenance out of your own home/office.
• Maintain an inventory of customer owned spare parts, company owned test equipment, and consumables.
• Provide reports/status updates on all activities/projects.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Must either hold or be able to obtain secret clearance.
• Must have own vehicle (personal mileage paid) and a clear/current driver’s license.
• Must exhibit a high degree of good interpersonal skills.
• Must either be or become an IBEW union member.
• Experience in data communications, RF / Microwave / Telecom.
• Experience with industry electronic test equipment (IFR / Anritsu / Midtronics / Bird / Rohde Schwarz)
• Knowledge of engine generators, solar charging systems, battery power systems, and cabling.
• Excellent organizational skills and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics.
• Proficiency with laptop computers using Microsoft operating systems and applications.
• Must interface with customer directly on occasion while working on casualties.

Education:
• Must hold or be able to obtain FCC GROL
• Associates degree or equivalent

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be have the ability to climb towers.
• Must be willing / able to work long hours and camp out during extended stays on mountain-top.
• Must be willing to fly in helicopters and work in extreme conditions.

WAGES:
• Position pays IBEW Journeyman technician wages. ($38.02/hour – full benefits)
• Substantial overtime (required and paid) during spring/fall maintenance periods.
