Communications Manager, SCAL GenLab Project

Job Summary:
The SCAL GenLab Implementation program (GenLab) is the regional implementation of a high-profile multi-year initiative that aims to create a smooth transition from multiple Laboratory computer systems to a single, unified system across the Kaiser Permanente enterprise. The communications manager for GenLab is responsible for creating and implementing communication strategies in support of this initiative and will work in partnership with the SCAL laboratory business leaders, the SCAL Business Information Officer (BIO) and staff, the GenLab Program Management Office, and other key members of the IT and Laboratory organizations, to deliver project communications services. The manager will establish priority communications initiatives that address stakeholder awareness, convey progress and outcomes of the GenLab program, and build stakeholder commitment. This position has responsibility for setting the standards for how the Kaiser Permanente brand and strategies as well as the Program strategies and program progress are effectively represented to the Kaiser Permanente organization, including physicians and key business partners.

Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Strategize with Communications, Laboratory, and IT Leadership and staff to identify high level communication priorities, write communication plans and creative briefs, research and analyze information and stakeholder audiences, write announcements and other communication materials, prepare presentations and manage overall communication program to fulfill the goals and objectives of the GenLab program.
- Provide communications consulting to SCAL GenLab Program Leadership on internal communications. Consulting activity will vary from verbal communications or advice on communications issues to providing customized communications plans and materials
- Lead project or ongoing teams for the purpose of implementing specific communications projects associated with the program within a given timeframe; strengthening the client relationship; and ensuring high quality.
- Create consistent and compelling positioning, messaging, and tactics consistent with the Kaiser Permanente brand.
- Serve as primary written content creator for the SCAL GenLab program with direction from the Business Information Officer and staff, laboratory business leaders, and IT Program Leadership.
- Develop change leadership strategies and tactics that can overcome resistance from a variety of stakeholders, mitigate productivity challenges during process transitions, and foster a shared sense of ownership among audiences.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations or related field and/or 4 years of additional work related experience.
- A min of 10 years of experience in corporate communications environment, including intensive project communications support, event management, and content development.
- Experience in change leadership, crisis communications, and issues management
- Demonstrated professional-level writing and editing skills for Web and traditional media.
- Able to respond to emerging issues and crises
- Recent experience in planning and implementing stakeholder engagement plans and internal communications campaigns for a large, complex organization.
- Must have strong communication and planning skills, be detail oriented, well organized, problem solving/analytical, self-directed, team focused, and results oriented individual.
- Demonstrated excellence in directly supporting senior executives in large organizations and influencing their approach to communications while nurturing the relationship
- Excellent presentation and PowerPoint skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead others through influence and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Information Technology and/or Health Care industry experience.
- Proven experience with organizational change, corporate reputation management, internal brand reinforcement, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience supporting an information security organization with communications services or other subject matter experience.
