NATURE OF WORK:
Launched in 2008, the Prison Reentry Initiative works with community partners, state agencies and other reentry stakeholders to support the reintegration of formerly incarcerated residents into the New Haven community. This is a highly responsible, skilled position appointed by the Mayor and reporting to the Reentry Coordinator.  The Community Empowerment Program will provide financial and technical support to grassroots programs that meet the needs of the reentry population in four broad areas: substance abuse, peer mentoring, family support, and educational support.  The Organizer will also be responsible for regular reporting on the services and support provided to community groups and individuals, and for developing metrics to track program outcomes.  Organizer must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
The applicant will possess a minimum of an Associates Degree in human services or related field and, preferably, two years of practical experience in one or more of the following areas: 1) human services job development, 2) community organizing and capacity building, 3) employment-related issues, 4) public administration, 5) fundraising, 6) grant-writing or 7) program design/evaluation.  Community Grants Organizer must demonstrate excellent written and communication skills.  Position also requires some familiarity with the barriers facing formerly incarcerated individuals and a commitment to stopping the cycle of incarceration by enhancing and supporting the strengths of individuals, families and communities.  Ability to converse in Spanish is a plus.
