Compliance Product Manager
Reporting in to Compliance Director and working closely with the Product Development Management group, this position acts as the primary contact point and subject matter expert between the Compliance and Product teams in relation to the impact, opportunities and threats of global changes to regulation on existing and future products.
This role would provide a global oversight, with the firm active in both the UK and oversees jurisdictions (including the US and Australia). The product range covers all asset classes including Equities, Fixed Income, Alternatives (commodities funds and fund of hedge funds), Private Equity and Real Estate. Assets are managed on both a pooled and segregated basis.
Responsibilities
- Reponsible for assisting the Compliance Officer (‘CO’) and Head of Product Strategy in the review and understanding of all relevant regulation relating to the firm’s product range. This requires a commercial appreciation of the understanding the target markets and distribution channels.
- Act as a central point of reference and expertise regarding regulation relevant to existing and new products. Provide advice proactively on Product compliance matters in connection with both existing and new business proposals.
- Promote awareness of regulatory ‘training and competence’ requirements, especially with regards to Product. Contribute to Compliance’s assessment of the Product related compliance training needs for staff. Assist with the identification of appropriate training arrangements including the provision of in-house training.
Advice and recommendations concerning implementation of compliance procedures and controls is to be given proactively with reference to FCA or other regulator’s rule books or other publications, regulations, legislation etc. Regulators, external lawyers or other advisors with compliance experience may be consulted if considered necessary by the CO (subject to budgetary constraints).
Requirements
- Experience of compliance with a thorough working knowledge of the relevant rules and regulations for the fund management industry, especially in relation to products.
- Previous involvement with product approvals, regulatory registration processes, rules and guidance being used in UK and other jurisdictions.
- A clear understanding of Dublin UCITS and QIF regimes, with experience of comprehensive dealings with the FCA.
- Expert knowledge of the major forthcoming pieces of global legislation, including AIFMD, MiFID II, FATCA, PRIPS, EMIR, Basel III, Solvency II, etc
- Proven ability to interpret rules, regulations, statutes etc. and to identify potential business issues arising from these, coupled with the pro-active style to communicate these to the business and the analytical approach to produce solutions.
- Good communication of regulatory requirements, business risks and resulting procedural recommendations at all levels
- Tenacity to progress critical issues in the face of opposition
