SUMMARY OF POSITION:The Comptroller maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards. The Comptroller has knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions is integral to this position.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare quarterly interim and year-end financial statements with applicable work papers and coordinate year end audit functions with independent auditing firm.• Prepare and reconcile college budgets• Manage fixed assets recording and reporting.• Prepare information as needed for annual tax returns, including 403(b) and 457 plans and reconcile those returns to the financial statements.• Manage preparation of annual 5500 returns• Prepare adjusted general ledger monthly including account reconciliations.• Monthly reconciliation of contributions through Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge integration, including brokerage firm interface for stock gifts.• Unitize endowment funds on a quarterly basis.• Manage the compliance of federal fund disbursements.• Monitor all external grant accounting requirements, including reporting needs.• Reconcile all temporarily and permanently restricted sub funds.• Prepare Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System Finance Survey annually.• Manage unclaimed property reporting requirements.• Cash forecasting and cash flow analysis.• Reconcile accounts receivable with rental billings.• Distribute monthly financial statements to departments.• Maintains accounting policy and procedure manual.• Maintain internal controls for all aspects of Business Office.• Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned personnel.• Serve on college committees as requested.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.• Is results-oriented and motivates employees to use their abilities for a sense of accomplishment. EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE• Bachelor of Science in Accounting, CPA or MBA preferred.• Experience preparing tax returns, financial statements. • Experience in non-profit setting preferably higher education• Experience supervising Business Office staff.• Experience closing general ledger monthly and annually.• Experience in a college setting is preferred. • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of products.Language Skills• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, service providers, outside auditors, government agencies, students, parents, banks, and vendors. Qualifications• Ability to analyze general ledger accounts. • Ability to manage time effectively to respond to competing deadlines and college requests.• Must be very computer literate including the Microsoft Office Suite• Must have working knowledge of Blackbaud and Raiser’s Edge.
