Please note that this position is Monday-Friday, 10 pm to 6 am.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Receives, processes, and manipulates JCL for the downloading and uploads of client data from various system platforms, media and network drives in a timely fashion.

Monitors and has working knowledge of transmission equipment, not limited to Connect Direct (NDM), FTP, PC transmission.

Monitors multiple computer systems in multiple locations.

Manipulates various types of printers for printing of reports and other specialty forms

Acts as a reports distribution operator.

IPL’s of the mainframe systems, and ensuring utilization of resources

Assist and monitors input and output processing, follows escalation procedures in abends and other issues regarding tape problems, missing reports, project managers, factory concerns, and technical support in maintaining a smooth production flow.

Performing daily routine maintenance and cleaning of drives, workstation, and general appearance of operation.

Also performs other duties such as tape filing and tape drive loading, responding to the factory window

Assists in the training of lower level operations personnel.

High School Diploma or equivalent with a year of college and/or technical school experience with related course work. One to two years of related information systems experience, of which 6 months to 1 year has been as an Operator Trainee or equivalent.

Working knowledge of PC and mainframe systems and software including, but not limited to, Windows, Novel, MVS, JCL, UNIX, PC networking, E-mail utilities, spreadsheets, and communication packages. A good understanding of data file structure and storage systems is needed. Typing and data entry skills of 40 wpm are also required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and remain organized. Must be able to exercise good judgment in determining priorities.

Must be willing to work flexible rotating shifts and be on call when the need arises. (Operations run 7 x 24 x 365. On call pager duty every 3rd weekend. Some 12hr shifts required for covering vacations and personal days off.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for this position. Clear, concise documentation and reporting of problem issues and equipment malfunctions are required. The Computer Operator communicates with internal personnel at all levels and notifies management and production of problems or status of job processing. Frequent customer contact occurs regarding transmission problems and data formats.

The Computer Operator must be able to trouble shoot, evaluate, and escalate problems dealing with multi-level platforms. Escalation and resolution of problems involves identifying the appropriate contact or action and ensuring that the problem is resolved in a timely manner. This position also deals with complex hardware and software programs, which can create many problems on all levels if not used properly.
