The British Consulate for the Balearics is seeking a temporary Consular Assistant

The British Consulates in the Balearics are responsible for providing consular assistance to British Nationals on the Islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.   The Islands have over 3.5million visitors every year and a resident community of approximately 66,000 British Nationals.

We are seeking to recruit a temporary Consular Assistant to support our team in Palma who will join our dynamic, highly motivated and experienced staff who are committed to delivering high-quality customer service.   The role of a Consular Assistant is to support the Consular teams in delivering their objectives.

We are looking for a candidate who above all have great interpersonal skills and experience of front-line customer service, are comfortable working in a target driven and team environment, have proven experience in administration work and are well organised.

The job will involve attending to British Citizens in person at the counter, by telephone and email; the issuing of emergency travel documents; preparing notarial documents, and on occasions providing support to the team when dealing with vulnerable consular cases such as deaths, hospitalisations and detentions.

The demands of the role are to ensure that the Consular Officers have all the necessary back up to enable them to give the best service to our customers; first rate administrative support to the respective Consular team; scheduling appointments and diary management, as well as taking telephone calls, answering emails, letters and faxes.
 

Fluency in English and Spanish (both written and oral) is essential. IT skills are vital and the right candidate will have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Outlook.   Some occasional travel may be required therefore a driving licence would be an advantage but is not essential.

Employment Terms:

6 months temporary contract; start date 01 May 2012 subject to satisfactory references and a security clearance. There will be a probation period of three months.   

Working hours:

37.5 per week.

Salary: €1.614 (non-negotiable) gross per month.

Income Tax:

The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are totally responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate.

Social Security:

The successful candidates will be enrolled in the Spanish State Social Security Scheme.
