Consultant Specialist-WAN Engineer
The Consulting Network Engineer's role is to ensure the availability, stability, and integrity of Kaiser Permanente's data, voice, and video network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and implementing local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) to support application deployments and expansion of Kaiser's Network environments. In addition, the Consulting Network Engineer will participate in the installation, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Plan, Design, and Implement Wide Area Networks, including development of configurations. - Develop and present LAN/WAN network engineering design packages - Develop low-level LAN/WAN design documentation - Implement routing protocols, including EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP. - Troubleshooting and problem solving for network and application issues. - Configure and assist with implementation of network hardware, including routers, switches, VoIP equipment, security appliances, etc. - Create and maintain network documentation as it relates to network topology, equipment, and configuration. - Interact and negotiate with application owners, project managers, vendors, consultants, and contractors to design and implement network solutions. - Perform network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. - Make use of standard operating procedures and applications for service, change, and incident management. - Document all aspects of KPIT network and services provided to users. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in a related field, or 4 years of equivalent work experience. - Minimum of 15 years of IT experience - LAN/WAN engineering experience in a Global Enterprise Environment. - Experience with Cisco equipment. - Experience designing, evaluating and recommending networking solutions. - Minimum of 5 years in the networking/telecommunications industry. - Experience with large project rollouts - Strong technical project management and engineering skills are mandatory. - Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment. - Strong technical project management and engineering skills are mandatory. - Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment. - Excellent customer service focus and analytical problem solving abilities. - Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills. - Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. - In-depth knowledge of Cisco IOS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF and MPLS environments. - Hands on experience with Cisco 28xx, 35xx, 37xx, 38xx, 45xx, 65xx, 7200 and 7500 series equipment. - Knowledge of IP traffic flow, protocol analysis, capturing and monitoring of live traffic streams. Preferred Experience: - Cisco CCIE certification not required but a definite plus.
