CONSUMER RETAIL REPORTER IN CANADA

THE POSITION

The Consumer Retail Reporter in Canada is a part-time independent contractor position. This person will work closely with the Consumer Products Senior Editor to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts and demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with experts who can speak to strategic trends in the consumer products, retail, and restaurants industries.

 

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

 

Ø  Thorough understanding of the Canada retail and consumer market. Strong background in alcoholic beverages, retail distribution, and/or consumer packaged goods industry a plus.

Ø  Ideal candidate is bilingual and can develop and maintain source relationships with buyers and distributors in Quebec, as well as other parts of Canada. Proficiency in Canadian French is a must.

Ø  Extensive industry network of contacts in Canada, beyond public relations and investor relations; investigative journalism, interviewing and/or cold-calling experience.

Ø  The ability to analyze and identify essential findings; strategize and think broadly forward; a knack for interpreting interview data and spotting discrepancies in a story. Strong writing skills are a plus.

Ø  Diligent in meeting deadlines. Schedule flexibility is a must due to project driven assignments.

Ø  Strong and positive communication skills, ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence, ability to work well within a team.

Ø  Candidate needs to be located in and work in Canada, telecommuting.

Ø  A phone line, computer, and internet connection is required. MS Word proficiency is a must and basic knowledge of Excel a plus.
