Posted Position Title: Consumer Underwriter Career Level: Experienced Function Risk Management Function Segment: Underwriting Location: United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces: Georgia City: Alpharetta Postal Code: 30005-8378 Relocation Assistance No Role Summary/Purpose: Our Consumer Underwriter answers inbound calls from our credit applicants in our Alpharetta, GA-area call center. With the goal of a one call decision, this role uses customer credit information to make educated decisions within a short window of time. This role services our newly expanded hours of availability on all three shifts. Shifts can start as early as 6am and go as late as 4am. Essential Responsibilities - Review and disposition credit decisions inside and outside system recommendations using grid and bureau information - Utilize tax returns and personal financial statements as tools in underwriting large transactions - Make credit decisions, up to, and in excess of $25,000 - Make recommendations for credit limits on new accounts and increase credit lines on existing account - Participate in the Risk Detection production process - Clear daily queues in accordance with established business standards - Perform financial analysis for large consumer deals - Adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements on every transaction processed - Support service center, field store credit personnel in all aspects of credit management, as needed; respond quickly and drive full resolution of all client, customer and field inquiries - Meet all timelines as they relate to the underwriting process - Achieve all productivity and accuracy targets - Ensure all Risk Underwriting Policies are followed - Communicate and engage effectively across business and functions - Effectively multi-task - Be willing to cross-train with other underwriting portfolios/teams. - Work closely with the Sr. Management Team with application monitoring - Detect and recommend corrective actions to any changes/problems with systems in a timely manner - Must complete cross-training (SWAT) in commercial credit underwriting within 1 year of start date and remain on active SWAT duty while in this role, completing a minimum of 4 hours per month of commercial calls/lending. Must also perform SWAT duties as dictated by business needs and call volume. Qualifications/Requirements: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SATISFY THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 19 OF THE FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE ACT - Minimum of 1 year of Underwriting with working experience utilizing consumer credit bureaus and/or a 4 year degree in Economics, Finance or Accounting. - Minimum of 1 year experience in a customer interfacing role. Desired Characteristics - Demonstrated credit granting authority of at least $10,000 consumer or commercial credit - Experience of underwriting bank cards and PLCC (Private Label Credit Cards) is highly preferred - Demonstrated strong analytical skills - Demonstrated credit investigation techniques - Demonstrated ability to analyze tax returns, personal and business financial statements - Strong knowledge of consumer credit bureau reports, with expert report interpretation skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Credit granting experience including decision and credit line assignment - Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, procedures and adaptable to change - Demonstrated ability to interact in a team environment Hours will vary between 6am-1am, Monday Sunday and are subject to change based on business needs.
