Content Developer
In this position, the technical writer will produce documentation and training materials for Actuate’s business intelligence and information management applications. The level of responsibility reflects the writer's experience, skills, and technical aptitude. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with technical depth and knowledge of current social media and multi-media trends in content development. The writer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research, write, and test original documentation or training materials including examples that are technically accurate and conforms to Actuate style.
- Develop appropriate training exercises and examples for very technical product aimed at Java developers.
- Incorporate social media and multimedia features into both documentation and training materials.
- Test and revise existing documentation and training materials to improve quality of content or to describe product enhancements.
- Create conceptual graphics, screenshots, and callouts following Actuate image guidelines.
- Track bug fixes using engineering department tools and modify content appropriately.
- Perform peer editing and technical testing of material developed by other writers.
- Perform final production on books, verify Postscript or PDF output, and transfer files to print vendor as needed. Convert source documentation to online help, pdf, and wiki.
Qualifications:
- Ability to use standard technical writing tools such as FrameMaker, X-Metal, Word, PaintShop Pro, Snagit, MediaWiki, Microsoft Project, Bug Tracking System, Perforce, Source Safe, and Webworks.
- Minimum of three years experience writing documentation or training materials preferred.
- Software industry especially database experience preferred.
- Degree in technical writing or comparable desirable.
- Technical degree such as computer science or engineering highly desirable.
- Knowledge of or training in social media and multi-media.
- Aptitude for working with products under development and cutting edge technology required
- Knowledge of some of the following required: databases, Excel, server technology, Web Services, Microsoft Foundation Classes, C#, Java, and APIs
- Native English speaker and knowledge of one or more of the following languages highly desirable: French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean
