Continuing Healthcare Nurse Assessor (RGN / RMN)

Hays Healthcare is working with a highly respected client in Derbyshire, who require a number of full-time Nurse Assessors to work within the Continuing Healthcare division. This office based job offer 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

As a Nurse Assessor you will be required to produce comprehensive, retrospective portrayals of patients’ needs based on the assimilation of all available evidence for consideration by an Independent Panel against the eligibility criteria for continuing NHS health care.

An overview of the main tasks would include:

• examine retrospective records to produce comprehensive Needs Portrayals Documents for patients whose relatives/carers (the enquirers) have requested an assessment of their eligibility for continuing NHS health care
• Select and reference all relevant evidence from care home records, GP records, community health service records, social care assessments and hospital records
• Validate the claims submitted by enquirers/their representatives to ensure the appropriateness of a retrospective assessment
• Inform and communicate with enquirers regarding the progress of their enquiry
• Introduce the Needs Portrayal Document at Independent Reassessment Panel hearings and answer questions of clarification.
• Advise the Team Manager of any issues of good practice and areas of concern to
• Attend and contribute to Team Meetings, Clinical Supervision sessions, training courses and audits.
• Ensure that the policies and procedures established for the retrospective assessment service are followed to ensure the consistent treatment of each enquiry.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skill sets:

• Previous experience working as Continuing Healthcare Nurse Assessor is desirable
• Qualified RGN / RMN with a valid pin and
• Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Health National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare.
• Knowledge and experience of patients with multiple illnesses / conditions and the impact this has on overall health and well-being.
• Knowledge and experience of dealing with risk assessment, clinical governance, policy and audits.
• The ability to build strong relationships with clients.
• Experience of assessing against standards.
