We have a Controller position open for a $10-$15m business unit that is a joint venture of two leaders in the data industry. The ideal candidate will have rock solid financial skills, the ability to work well with operational management and the entrepreneurial attitude to join a small business with large aspirations. It reports to the head of the business unit.
The Controller is responsible for directing the day-to-day financial affairs of the Company, including general accounting, bank reconciliations and cash accounts, financial analyses of operations, internal auditing, the preparation of interim and final financial statements, the compliance with regulatory and corporate reporting requirements. It also includes the management of the internal accounting team and any outsourced accounting and finance services. Additionally, as this position is in a small business unit within a larger company, the Controller will likely be responsible for some operational areas. .
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Accounting/Finance:
- Development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, staffing and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization
- Maintain the company's system of accounts, General Ledger and keep books and records on all company transactions and assets.
- Establish accounting policies for the company and prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
- Coordinate and review the impacts of budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the TE, Payroll, and GL system), and analyzes reports variances
- Responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payrolls, and other applicable taxes and state/city filings
- Furnish internal reports. Revise and update reports that are useful and efficient, and furnish external reports as necessary. Ensure communication of company’s performance is clear, concise and appropriate for the respective audience (corporate management, internal line managers).
- Responsible for providing effective financial controls and risk measures for the entire organization. This includes reconciled bank statements, audit controls – both internal and external, as well as capital resources within the balance sheet
- Oversee and direct all aspects of the cash management functions
- Act as finance liaison for all acquisitions for accounting and system reporting.

Communications Skills:
- Encourage open, ongoing internal communication
- Establish and maintain communications processes within accounting function
- Develop reports and presentations that are clear, compelling and persuasive
- Adapt communication style to relevant audience
Desired Skills Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA certification preferred
- 10 + years of financial management experience, preferably in media marketing.
- Strong forecasting and analytical skills
- Proven leadership ability – managed an accounting team
- Proven ability to interact with people at all levels of an organization, fostering strong cross-functional teamwork and results
- Strategic thinking ability with balanced analytical and creative approach
