Controller I, Traffic Monitoring

Job Description Scope of Work: Use Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) to monitor major portions of Hampton Roads Interstate highway system Monitor: Virginia State Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and various communications channels Activate appropriate response(s) to detected and/or reported incidents; includes dispatch of Safety Service Patrol (SSP) and location assistance to first responders Access and control traffic management devices (video cameras, Changeable Message Signs, Highway Advisory Radio System) Safely operate the High Occupancy Vehicle Reversible Roadway in accordance with VDOT prescribed policies, guidelines, and requirements Generate, receive, and respond to calls pertaining to various persons/organizations/agencies Record all appropriate Control Room activities in incident database Make appropriate entries in VaTraffic; responsible for Region-wide VaTraffic Quality Assurance Responsible for timeliness, completeness and accuracy of assigned administrative requirements Create and submit internal Work Orders for equipment failures or malfunctions When directed by the VDOT, function as a member of Emergency Response Team Other duties as assigned by the Control Room Shift Supervisor Qualifications: Education: * High School diploma or GED License/Registrations: Virginia Drivers License in good standing Minimum Requirements: Full-range of physical mobility, visual acuity, and general good health Strong written and oral communication skills Experienced in and/or knowledgeable of traffic monitoring and traffic control systems Experienced in and/or knowledgeable of call-taking/dispatching Emergency Operations Center knowledge and/or experience Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment Familiarity with Hampton Roads Interstates and local roadways Computer literate; Windows-based application experience; minimum 25 WPM typing Scheduling flexibility Work Conditions: * May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments * Controlled, indoor environment with dimmed lighting * Fast-paced, multi-tasking environment * Significant periods of sitting, CCTV monitor viewing, and data entry * Heavy telephone, radio, and computer usage * Closely supervised shift schedule; monitored performance with routine evaluation * Potential for public/media interaction What We Offer AECOM employees around the world enjoy a wide range of benefits and competitive compensation package.
