Position Title: Controller

Location: Administrative Offices, 6532 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, Maryland.

 

Hours: Full Time (40 hours/week). Must be available for evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Examples of Duties: Responsible for the daily implementation and wide variety of duties and responsibilities of the office of Finance and Budget. Maintains systems of internal financial controls. Assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the coordination of the annual budget submissions for the Library and administers approved budgets. Assist the CFO in the administration of the Library System’s budget and accounting policies to ensure the control of receipts and expenditures. Prepares cash flow report of Library funds for submission to CFO. Assist in the maintenance of automated financial systems and provide monthly reports by 5th working day of the subsequent month to the CFO. Maintains CIP reporting including monthly depreciation schedules.  Maintains balance sheet reconciliations and prepaid schedules on a monthly basis.  Administers grant and gift funds. Serves as the backup for the CFO as needed. Supervises, trains and evaluates staff in supervisory line. Serves on appropriate managerial and Leadership teams; participates in ongoing strategic planning with the senior leadership team. Performs other duties or responsibilities that are related to the position.

 

Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in accounting and five (5) years experience with at least 3 years as a Controller with supervisory responsibility. Some experience with governmental agencies a plus. Strong analytical abilities with a desire and commitment to take full accountability for his/her responsibilities.  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Demonstrated ability to manage and develop talent. Must have the ability to create excellent working relationship within the organization and to engender trust and respect of peers, subordinates, and senior management. MIP experience a plus. Work involves extensive sitting; walking; reaching, stooping, bending; grasping and moving objects; and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
