Position Overview As the controller for the Armed Forces Services Corporation we will rely on you to manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a rapidly growing business. We are engaged in complex federal government contracting to benefit soldiers, veterans, and their families. AFSC is a rapidly growing successful business. Just 4 years ago we had 25 employees. Currently we have nearly 300 employees and growing. Your primary duties include overseeing a finance and accounting function that implements the policies and management controls to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and other pertinent government regulations. You will need to balance being a hands-on leader without becoming lost in every detail. As an integral part of AFSC's executive team, you will have four direct reports. As the top level staff in accounting we will look to you to communicating effectively and clearly with your colleagues so that they can better manage their business. Responsibilities of a Controller Be responsible for accurate recording and reporting of all financial transactions in an environment with a complex, diverse portfolio of contracts. You will maintain the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, fixed asset management, and all other accounting and finance-related activities. You will ensure that accounting activities are in compliance with relevant federal and state government regulations. You will minimize internal control weaknesses. You will ensure that external document submissions and filings are accurate and timely. Assign, direct, develop and evaluate accounting staff. Be responsible for developing an annual budget for the business, tracking results, and reporting against budget targets to senior management and the board of director. You will prepare a six-month cash forecast each month, review the cash position daily and ensure minimal finance charges are incurred. Be responsible for coordinating tax reporting which includes working with external accountants to file federal, state, and payroll tax returns. You will oversee the preparation and filing of payroll taxes, and tracks and reports employee benefit tax data. Be responsible for the development, accuracy, and timeliness of all Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) reporting requirements, including forward rate submissions and incurred cost submissions. You will coordinate the annual audit, ensuring that accounting records and reports are in compliance with all relevant government regulations. You will cooperate with and assists external auditors as appropriate. Be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with company personnel and senior management. Activities include advising department managers regarding accounting entries, reports, and comparative analyses; assisting on issues that require cross-departmental coordination; ensuring that employees are well informed of accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. Be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective business relationships with vendors, outside auditors, and professional trade groups. Activities include serving as a liaison between the company and external auditors and regulatory authorities, representing the company to various trade professionals and groups, ensuring that AFSC's reputation is maintained, and handling confidential company information in an appropriate manner.
