Controller – Non

The San Diego Natural History Museum was founded in 1874 and over the last 136 years has been the premier Natural History Museum in the Western Region.  Its mission is to interpret the natural world through research, education, and exhibits and to promote the understanding of the unique biodiversity of the Southern California and Baja California Peninsula. 

 

As the new Controller, reporting to the CFO, this position, with the accounting department staff will be responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, and treasury management for the organization, direct the activities of the accounting function, with primary concern for the accuracy and maintenance of the general ledger accounts and the resultant financial statements, ensure GAAP compliance, point of contact for external auditors and make appropriate recommendations to the CFO regarding possible methods of increasing revenues or of decreasing deductions from revenue and operating expenses.

 

Seven plus year’s financial analysis, general ledger and fund accounting experience. Familiarity with nonprofit organizations preferred. Must have a Bachelors Degree in accounting with thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Minimum of four years’ experience managing and supervising staff. Ability to interface with Board Members, Senior Management and Front-Line Staff. Attention to detail, big picture oriented, analysis and forecasting ability a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
