Controls Engineer Job in San Jose 95134, California US

Wrightspeed is looking for a controls engineer to work with the engineering team to develop and deploy vehicle control algorithms and strategies. You will be expected to understand and appreciate system physics and dynamics, design appropriate control strategies, substantiate control performance through simulation, work with the software team to implement these algorithms on microcontrollers or CPLDs, design an effective control test and evaluation program, and document and maintain these algorithms. Candidate should be a self-starter able to work with minimal oversight and willing to take responsibility for all aspects of vehicle control. This will include design work in the following areas:

ñ Vehicle dynamics control

ñ Robust state estimation of the vehicle, battery, motor, etc

ñ Motor control

ñ Battery state of charge and state of health estimation

ñ Automated vehicle system management

ñ Fault handling and response

ñ Dynamics and Control simulation

 

Qualifications

Requirements

ñ Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink

ñ Familiar with C/C++

ñ Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering

ñ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

ñ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a multi-discipline team

ñ Experience implementing classical, linear control designs

ñ Strong math and physics skills

 

Desirable / Preferred

ñ Vehicle (automotive or aerospace) test experience

ñ Experience with designing and implementing complex state machines

ñ Knowledge of and experience designing optimal controllers, and working in state space

ñ Knowledge of non-linear control techniques

ñ Kalman filter design experience

ñ Knowledge of and experience with battery state of charge and state of health monitoring

ñ Significant programming experience

ñ Experience with fault-tolerant control design

ñ Experience with Sensor fusion techniques

ñ Control and physics simulation experience

ñ Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment

ñ Experience with Verilog and/or VHDL
