Mission:

 

Lead the Controls Engineering Team consistent with the business vision, mission, strategy, operating philosophy, and quality policy. Provide the appropriate control technology for capital equipment manufactured for a variety of customer applications.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Supervises and coordinates efforts of the Controls Engineering Team.

·         Develops electrical schematics and controls drawings. Creates system control panel layouts, detail electrical drawings and cost effective system programming.

·         Provides oversight on the fabrication of control panels at in-house and external panel shops.

·         Participates in system start-up/commissioning activities at customer sites when necessary.

·         Builds customer confidence by providing engineering leadership through design reviews, quality inspection visits, installation, and start-up assistance.

·         Provides Estimating and Sales with accurate and competitive bidding on material handling portion of projects considering customer needs, bidding documents and technical requirements.

·         Reviews scope of projects with sales to design system for specific process, and provides technical support for Sales in meetings with customer (i.e. providing demonstrations), as required.

·         Communicates with customer and other partners, as required, to clearly define the process and product flow.  Checks the proposal against the estimate for accuracy.

·         Ensures that the equipment supplied meets the performance objectives and GKS standards.

·         Supports manufacturing and field activities with technical interpretations and problem solving.

·         Develops designs that lead to the lowest installed cost. Ensures the controls material and engineering budgets are met.

·         Ensures compliance with regulatory and industrial safety standards on all controls designs and specifications.

·         Ensures the scope of work and deliverables of the contract are translated to engineering specifications at all times throughout the course of the project.

·         Prepares and maintains controls engineering and controls installation schedules and plans.

·         Analyzes the technical content of the project and identifies areas of risk that require special attention to ensure overall performance of the final system, by using tools such as launch meetings, design review meetings, constructability reviews, focused problem solving sessions, description of operations etc.

·         Continually reviews, assesses, and when needed, suggests improvements to the Koch Quality Management System.

·         Leads efforts to research standards for improvement opportunities and develops engineering tools that lead to improved engineering performance and cost efficient designs.

 

 

Requisite Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

·         Ability to execute engineering of Koch equipment.

·         Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

·         Ability to speak a second language (preferred).

·         Skills in current software applications, i.e., AutoCAD and MS Office products.

·         Skills in PLC and HMI Programming using various control technology.

·         In depth knowledge of PLC based, controls systems, HMI and SCADA.

·         Detailed knowledge of industrial networking protocols and their applications.

·         Knowledge of the operating characteristics of variable frequency drives, Motor control logic, Burner controls and Industrial Power Distribution.

 

Education, Training, and/or Experience:

 

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, 5 years of Control System Design, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         Experience in the development of state of the art controls systems.

·         Experience in the industry (Koch or equivalent).
