Controls Engineer (Mechanical Testing) - Derbyshire

An experienced Controls Engineer is required to join our clients Mechanical Testing Team on a permanent basis. The Mechanical Testing Team is responsible for proof of performance testing of fluid and mechanical systems in test stands or in the field.
Purpose:
The Engineer (Mechanical Test - Control) interacts closely with other Engineers and Managers, to discuss and develop Rig and system design and support their respective requirements, and also to ensure the smooth running of projects and effective delivery of the Mechanical Testing Process.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop a close relationship with the Control specialists to support, mentor and manage them to a high level of performance.
Maintain communication and contact with external suppliers and contractors is key in ensuring that the facility operates efficiently and effectively by providing support and guidance on any actions as required.
Have responsibility for all Control Engineering aspects of tests, test stands, rigs and pallet designs ensuring test development complies to specification, whilst ensuring completion to time and cost.
Be responsible for and provide technical and engineering support for the maintenance of all Control systems, associated mechanical and engine management systems, as well as the plant systems and services to the Testing Facility, and site to ensure minimum amount of downtime in the event of a failure. The Engineer will be required to coordinate and supervise work from internal and external service groups.
Responsibilities may include technical presentations to global OEMs, partners, customers and internal colleagues
Plans and implements own tasks/projects, may act as project leader.
May have specific responsibilities for subordinates within the area.
Represents company at external industry meetings and/or with customers and/or with suppliers.
Has responsibility for compliance with legal and/or other protocols relevant to the role.
Required Skills / Knowledge / Expertise:
Candidates are likely to have a background in automotive engineering, however candidates from a power generation, water or chemical background will be considered.
Minimum HND in a relevant technical discipline.
May be working towards first degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical engineering
5-7 years of Control System programming experience.
General knowledge of automatic transmission and related friction testing systems.
Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) with colleagues and internal/external customers.
Experience of Schenck DC101 is desirable
Knowledge of SCADA and PLCs is required
Ability and willingness to respond resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities and obstacles
High energy and enthusiastic; strong work ethic
Willingness to travel (occasional domestic and infrequent international travel)
Willingness to follow all safety requirements, including use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
