The Cook is responsible to make a compelling difference in the lives of our residents through providing excellence and innovation in aging services. The primary responsibility of the Cook is to prepare meals for our residents and operation of the kitchen.

This is a Part-Time (20) hours per week position

Essential Responsibilities:

·         Instructs and  helps the  kitchen staff

·         Complies with and enforces all sanitation polices/procedures

·         Maintains temperature logs for all equipment and prepared food

·         Participates in menu planning

·         Participates in ordering goods

·         Accurate record keeping (checklist, production counts, food/equipment temperature)

·         Speaks with residents in the dining room(s) regarding meal satisfaction

·         Helps to organize, plan, cook and serve the daily meal as well as catered and special events

·         Keeps food storage areas neat and in order

·         Ensures proper food handling and storage according to established policies/procedures

·         Prepares food according to established recipes

·         Assumes responsibility of left-over food to avoid waste

·         Tastes food to ensure quality standards are met

·         Reviews menu with production staff

Work Environment: Retirement community providing food service to senior adults. Must demonstrate flexibility and patience; to work as a member of a team; to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interests in people, especially senior adults. Works as a team member with minimal supervision. Able to work with various personalities. Able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.

 

Physical Requirements: Capable of standing and walking for long periods.  Requires full use of gross and fine motor skills of the upper and lower extremities, frequent stooping and bending; lifting, pushing pulling and moving a minimum of 50 pound cart; ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to meet essential functions of the job requirements.

 

Equipment/tools/machines Oven and range, steam table, slicer,

coffee machine, culinary knives and utensils. Computers Working knowledge of computer technology, including document, spreadsheet, and PowerPoint software.

 

Education or Degree Required: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Graduation from an accredited secondary (voc tech) culinary program, or post secondary training or graduation from a culinary training program

 *Will consider a candidate with a combination of education and experience


Licenses, Certifications Registrations:
Serve Safe Certification

Related Experience: Proven culinary skills; 3 to 5 years’ experience and /or formal training.
