£28,955 to £34,585

 

The Department of Engineering and Automotive Technologies wishes to recruit a Coordinating Lecturer in Engineering.

The successful candidate will ideally hold a teaching qualification, a degree in engineering or related discipline and experience of working and, preferably, leading programmes in the Learning and Skills sector.  A minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience is desirable.

The coordinator role requires the successful candidate to teach on a range of programmes from level 2 to level 4/5 (HNC Engineering and FdEng in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) and to coordinate the work of lecturers delivering on the BTEC level 2 and 3 Engineering programmes delivered in the department. This will involve taking full responsibility for the quality of the programmes and the success of the learners.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST

As a member of the teaching staff, Key Strategic Priorities for the post holder are:

SP1 – to provide high quality vocational education and professional training,

SP2 – to add value to the learner experience

and SP3 – to provide a responsive and relevant curriculum. 

 

However, all teaching staff should also take an active role in supporting:

SP4 – to promote the value, perceptions and benefits of vocational education and BCOT

and SP5 – to engage with employers.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The main duties and responsibilities for a Co-ordinating Lecturer include all of those for a Main Grade Lecturer (see list below), and the following additional responsibilities/duties:

 

1.      To undertake the role of a course leader for major programmes, including collation of assignments and Schemes of Work, and monitoring/completing key quality mechanisms.

 

2.      To lead and co-ordinate a course team or teams and the associated curriculum and staff development activities.

 

3.      To manage resources (staff, accommodation, equipment) for specific courses.

 

4.      To supervise and manage the work of assistant/main grade lecturers and support staff involved in course provision.

 

5.      In conjunction with the relevant Programme Manager, take a lead in the development of practical aspects of the curriculum to meet local and regional needs.

 

Main Grade Lecturer:

 

1.      To meet the College’s strategic priorities and departmental objectives.

 

2.      To devise students’ learning programmes and to guide them through the learning process (action planning, reviews, progression).

 

3.      To deliver learning and undertake assessment on a range of programmes, taking full responsibility for the success of own learners.

 

4.      To act as personal tutor.

 

5.      To contribute to curriculum and staff development activities.

 

6.      To develop and produce learning and assessment materials using e-systems (VLE, Boodle, etc).

 

7.      To ensure that employability and employer engagement activities are embedded into the programmes, including ensuring that appropriate work experience is undertaken by the learners.

 

8.      To provide innovative teaching and learning experiences and develop a personalised and holistic learning approach.

 

9.      To undertake administrative duties as requested by the College.

 

10.    Ensure registers are marked.

 

11.    To participate in course teams and, if required, to lead such a team.

 

12.    To evaluate the quality of provision within the programme area and ensure full compliance with all quality mechanisms (CRAEs, etc).

 

13.    As required, act as Lead Verifier for a designated subject area.

 

14.    To supervise the work of admin support, technicians and assistant lecturer staff within the programme area.

 

15.    To assist with liaison and marketing activities.

 

16.    Interface with CIS on a daily basis.

 

17.    To ensure all delivery is resourced appropriately for teacher and learner – to include suggesting potential enhancements and finding solutions to / reporting on difficulties as they occur.

 

18.    Student recruitment.

 

19.    Events outside of normal College hours, e.g. parent evenings, summer schools, off-site activities.

 

20.    Health Safety/Safeguarding/Equality Diversity.
