Principal Accountabilities

  1. Evaluate credit risk (financial, transactional and other) relating to new corporate business proposals and to advise the Head Office Credit Committee (and Board if necessary) through succinct presentations so that the bank can pursue risk-conscious business with timely decision-making.

         2)         Review credit risk (financial/transactional) at least annually relating to existing business continuing on the bank’s books, to confirm that credit risk remains acceptable and authorise renewal for the continuation of existing credit limits.

       3)       Evaluate country risk (economic /political) using all available sources in order to assist the HOCC in setting prudent group country limits (bearing in mind business requirements as well as risk diversification/control).

       4)       Undertake portfolio studies of credit risks within a unit, industry or economic sector to control and evaluate risk on a portfolio basis to enable management to review and control unacceptable concentrations.   Where and when appropriate, work with the Economist to enhance these portfolio studies.

         5)         Monitor financial, economic and political news from media sources on customers/countries regularly, in order to alert the branch/HOCC and revise risk ratings in case of need, to enable the bank to take timely action to protect asset values where necessary.

         6)       Work closely with other HOCD Team Members and other colleagues within Risk Management to clean systems data, implement new systems, embed systems related knowledge within the department and the group.

         7)         Work with Risk Management to ensure that business units comply with the Bank’s (and Group) credit policies, procedures and customer limit specifications, by regular review of applications/reports and consultation provided to branch staff, so as to maintain the integrity of the bank’s control systems.

         8)         Provide Training and support to credit analysts in the Head Office/branches as also to other Trainee staff, on all aspects of credit risk analysis and credit procedures.

        9)         Support HHOCD CCRO in any project or strategic initiative as may be required.

       10)      Work with MENA units and RMs to proactively provide support for their business activities and promote close co-operation between units with ABC Group.

6.Knowledge, Skills and Experience

A good degree in business administration or other financial discipline such as professional Banking/accounting diploma etc., with at least 10 years of core banking (Corporate Banking/Credit) experience is desirable (additional 5 years of core banking experience in case of other degrees).

Job Context

The job holder needs to balance risk-prudence with actual market-practices/pressures and be capable of professional discussions with senior branch managers, even if in disagreement, to facilitate realistic recommendations. The job holder needs to be fully conversant with the banks and Group credit policies and procedures (as amended periodically) both for implementation in H. O. and for advice to branch credit officers where necessary.

               The biggest challenge is to ensure sound risk-analysis under marketing pressures and frequently under tight deadlines for decision-making.
