Corporate Analyst – Oil & Gas Sector recruitment
Corporate Service - Analyst
Location: London or Edinburgh
The Company
Wood Mackenzie is the most comprehensive source of knowledge about the world's energy and metals industries. We analyse and advise on every stage along the value chain - from discovery to delivery, and beyond - to provide clients with the commercial insight that makes them stronger. With more than 650 professionals in over 20 offices worldwide, we analyse the assets, markets and companies operating upstream and downstream; in oil, gas, coal, carbon, metals and power generation.
The Corporate Service Team
The team produces the Corporate Service and Corporate Benchmarking Tool. Wood Mackenzie’s Corporate Service reports provide in-depth coverage of the strategies and portfolios of companies in the upstream oil and gas industry, ranging from the super-majors to the larger independents and key National Oil Companies.
The reports and data are regarded by the industry and financial institutions as an important source of independent research which is differentiated from that available from other sources. As well as publishing reports, we market our thoughts and ideas regularly in face-to-face meetings with these clients and prospects.
The Corporate Service is at the start of a significant period of change and growth. We plan to deepen the existing coverage of companies in 2011/12 as Wood Mackenzie builds out its upstream database. A new Mid-Cap product will expand the coverage to North American and International Mid-Cap companies. Our analysis in the Mid-Cap Service will need to be flexible and timely to keep up with the often rapid change in this dynamic sub-sector.
These changes will provide the analysts with opportunities to develop their career in the Corporate Service, and the team members will also work closely with the sister teams in the MA Service and Executive Briefing Service. The latter is targeted at the buy-side investment community.
The Role
The Corporate Service reports are widely read at the highest executive level and the quality of work is key to continued success. As the analyst becomes experienced in the role, he or she will be expected to extract data to show the strengths and weaknesses of the companies, and also be able to present a clear strategic assessment in written form. The Analyst will work closely initially with the Senior Corporate Analyst to become familiar with the report writing process, to develop the strategic thinking as well as writing style. We would expect an experienced candidate to be able to produce the full reports on his or her own within 12-18 months.
