Liberty Mutual has an exciting opportunity available for a highly qualified attorney. The attorney will primarily provide legal services to surety underwriters for surety transactions. The attorney will provide legal counsel and risk analysis to the surety underwriters on transactional matters to facilitate surety business and permit surety business leaders to make informed business judgments. Also, the attorney will provide general corporate legal services to support the surety business unit.
Responsibilities:
- Provide contract and transaction analysis on job and account specific matters, advising on contract and bond provisions, negotiating terms, and drafting documents to support the business needs. Facilitate indemnity packages by assisting in negotiation and drafting indemnity agreements and related documents, while counseling on related indemnity questions.
- Facilitate LMS Legal Department's development of appropriate forms and account specific documents, and policy and procedures for their use, including indemnity agreements, international deeds of indemnity, subordination agreements, bonds forms, co-surety agreements and collateral agreements.
- Coordinate with LMS' Chief Counsel as well as other LMG legal resources to provide general corporate legal services to LMS as needed. Areas of general corporate legal support include compliance programs, corporate governance, litigation support, marketing materials, producer management, public affairs, reinsurance and underwriting limitations.
- Identifiy and inform surety business unit of legal developments and provides guidance on legal trends, statutory/regulatory developments and emerging risk issues. Prepare and deliver presentations/training sessions to LMS staff and industry organizations with respect to surety legal issues, and also stay abreast of developments in the law.
- Interact and collaborate with all levels of the underwriting and other surety operations units, accounts and their counsel, agents brokers, co-surety partners, obligees and industry organizations.
- Completion of Law School with law practice experience and/or transactional legal and/or surety claims experience (usually greater than 8 years) in handling surety or related matters.
- Comprehensive knowledge of surety, contract, and construction law.
- Strong aptitude for complex contract review and development. Exercises a high level of autonomy in handling assigned cases and transactional requests.
- Must be knowledgeable of private, state, and federal laws that are applicable to surety transactional matters.
- A full working knowledge of surety business operations and procedures as well as the ability to communicate effectively is required.
