JOB DESCRIPTION

The candidate needs extensive knowledge of Linux/Solaris, open source e-mail server software (i.e. Sendmail), DNS software (i.e., BIND), and web server software (i.e. Apache/Tomcat), Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Exchange installation, configuration, and management, router configurations, LAN/WAN and Internet protocols including BGP and OSPF, digital certificates, certificate servers and Public Key Infrastructure, SNMP, server virtualization (i.e. VMware, Hyper-V), continuous data backup and replication, tape/disk backup, disaster recovery and reconstitution, software installation, patch management, system and software configuration management, software license management, helpdesk processes and procedures, Tier III troubleshooting support as subject matter expert, laptop, workstation, and server hardware installation, support, and maintenance, network management tools, managing various LAN/WAN services, defining computer hardware specifications for purchase, and telecommunications services, telephone systems, and VOIP technology.

Responsible for managing the WAN assets that are inside the edge firewalls. Administers the e-mail system, directory servers, digital certificate servers, domain name servers, web servers, Internet and intranet routing, and other WAN services being provided. Monitors the status of the services received from outside vendors and is the point of contact for the internet service providers. Manages and monitors the Wide Area Network. Maintains and records logs of trouble reports pertaining to WAN. Assists the local site administrators as a “help desk” resource to resolve internal problems. Procures software, hardware, and their associated support services to maintain the infrastructure services. Develops novel approaches to increase the efficiency of the management processes throughout the WAN.
