Role Description

VP/Director Level Tax Controversy Position

The Corporate Tax Department in New York is seeking to hire an experienced attorney to replace a recent FTE departure.   The position will involve managing (both independently and as part of a team) federal and state tax examinations of the DB Group.  This will involve inter-facing with the IRS Audit Team, facilitating the IDR process (both within DB and with the IRS), preparing written responses (citing the appropriate legal authority) to Notices of Proposed Adjustment and, drafting Protests to Appeals.  The position will also require working with outside counsel.

The position specifications are as follows:    

1.    A law degree with substantial legal research/writing experience is required;

2.    Extensive experience with IRS examinations and IRS appeals is required.  The candidate must be familiar with the procedural code provisions of the Internal Revenue Code and the “large case” sections of the Internal Revenue Manual – including the rules governing assessments, refunds, time limitations, large case audit procedure, summons issuance/enforcement, privilege, transfer liability, collection procedures, etc.; 

3.    Actual tax litigation experience is preferable but not required;  

4.    A mixture of private sector experience and Federal Government experience is strongly preferred.  Corporate In-house experience (especially in a financial institution) is a strong plus;

5.    The candidate must be able to manage multiple tax examinations from opening conference through closing;  

6.    The position is VP/Director level – depending on the level/type of experience.  The candidate should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
