                                                       Job Description

 

Position/Title:      Cost Accountant

Department:        Finance

Reports to:                    Senior Cost Accountant

 

Position Summary:

 

The Cost Accountant will perform various accounting functions consisting of preparation of semi-monthly, monthly and quarterly job cost reports and other cost and revenue analyses. Candidate must be familiar with percentage-complete accounting in a high volume project environment and be adept at financial analysis and reconciliations. Candidate must also be personable for interacting with project managers and engineers. Additional responsibilities may include serving as backup for other internal accounting functions, including processing of accounts payable if needed.

 

Essential Duties:

 

·         Analyze and reconcile individual jobs for contract price vs. billings and budgets vs. costs incurred on a regular on-going basis.

·         Analyze, research and assist in resolving job cost and billing related issues with project management, operations staff and finance department staff based on above job cost analysis.

·         Generate semi-monthly time and labor cost reports for operations and management review.

·         Assist in preparation of semi-monthly, monthly and quarterly work in progress reports using GAAP job cost percentage complete accounting.

·         Assist in preparation of monthly recurring revenue accounting/reports.

·         Close jobs after all job cost analysis and reconciliations are complete in conjunction with operations management and review.

·         Ability to follow through with all adjustments necessary as a result of above reconciliations and analysis.

·         Month-end close responsibilities including general ledger reconciliations of revenue and cost related accounts in comparison to job cost reports by line of business and departments.

·         Experience in Physical Inventory of fixed assets, set up work in progress to maintain perpetual inventory.

·         Perform other related duties as assigned by management or other senior staff

                                            

Education and Experience required:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with above 3.0 GPA in regard to cost accounting coursework.

·         3 years of related job cost experience including percentage complete accounting and preparation of related job cost schedules (not entry level and not overqualified  experience)

·         Must have demonstrated, reference-able ability in identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner, as well as gathering and analyzing information. This is more important than years of experience.

·         Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and have a flair for systems

·         Timberline experience preferred but not necessary

·         Must be highly motivated and self driven, entrepreneurial spirit is welcomed.
