Monthly Close Responsibilities
Manage staff of two cost accountants. Review JE's and account reconciliations prepared by staff prior to being forwarding to Divisional Controller. Assist in ensuring that work orders are closed timely and that all direct labor is accurately captured prior to period end. Assist and or review audit schedules prepared by Cost Accountants quarterly. Review Operational Manufacturing Summary Reports and Direct Labor Reports prepared by staff monthly prior to being forward to Divisional Controller. Cross-train on all aspects of staff key job responsibilities and be able to step-in and perform functions, as needed. Continue to develop monthly operational metrics that will allow the Division to analyze actual monthly, quarterly and YTD results and variances for COGS. Meet monthly with Divisional Controller and Operations to review results. Manage Annual Standard Cost Setting
Manage the annual Standard Cost setting process by
1) holding kick-off meeting with key participants within Operations to review key deliverables and timeline,
2) review and analyze inputs to ensure the highest integrity of inputs used to derive the Division's Standard Costs for it's products,
3) perform analysis and YOY comparisons of Standard Costs and present analysis to Division Management,
4) work with Division Controller and Division Management to develop annual promotions, as needed. In-depth Financial and/or Operational Analysis
Maintain existing cost models up to implementation of SAP, but more importantly drive the development of financial tools in SAP that will allow the Division to analyze cost data in various ways in an effort to help manage costs and ultimately lower standard costs. Communicate or alert CSD Management of any significant issues or opportunity trends and recommend solutions, strategies or actions to be considered. Partner with business to understand key Manufacturing projects that might impact standard costs and stay informed of major developments. Earn their confidence and trust and be sought after for advice and counsel. Process Improvements
Play a key role in SAP implementation. Work cross-functionally to improve financial systems, operational processes or internal controls, actual month-end reporting in an effort to effort to standardize, improve internal controls and reporting, as well as reduce cycle time. Engage or lead efforts on cross-functional initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance and Accounting. CPA, MBA, CMA, or CPIM certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
8+ years of experience in managing Cost Accounting function or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Financial experience in the Biotech/Medical device industry or within a manufacturing operations environment, preferred.
SKILLS:
Proficient working knowledge of SAP and Excel; knowledge of GAAP, and SOX reporting requirements; solid analytical skills and ability to identify key drivers of costs; proficient in the use and development of cost models; ability to lead smaller projects and provide involved and in-depth operational analysis; solid project management skills in order to accurately and timely complete detailed data assignments; excellent business writing skills; strong management, interpersonal, and inter-departmental skills required; and must work well within a matrix-style organization. The ability to think creatively and work in a team environment is required.
