The Paper Magic Group designs and distributes a broad range of seasonal and everyday social expression and decorative products for sale to customers primarily through mass market retailers in the United States and Canada. Our Halloween Division in New York, NY is currently recruiting for a Costume Manager to join our team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for managing the entire development process for costumes and related wigs and accessories. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Providing oversight and direction for costume, accessory, mask and wig development as it pertains to costume program development.
· Creating line plans in conjunction with area Product Managers, including development schedule and resource planning for sample development to meet area design goals.
· Managing, developing and mentoring the Design staff to produce ideas and costume samples to complete department goals.
· Managing Sample Production staff to ensure that samples meet the product integrity and lead times.
· Contributing original ideas and themes that will keep the product line at the forefront of the industry.
· Suggesting new fabric, trim, equipment, and technologies needed to develop new products.
· Visiting overseas suppliers to ensure on time and accurate development of samples.
· Supporting Graphics Manager in packaging and catalog creation. Supplying ideas for catalog and packaging photo shoots to include backgrounds, model selection, hair and make-up direction, accessories and styling suggestions.
· Planning and executing photo shoots for packaging, catalog, marketing brochures, etc. to meet agreed upon timing and action calendar.
· Providing trend research for costume direction.
· Participating in key account presentations. Partnering with Product Managers and Sales Managers to develop customer exclusives to meet their needs.
· Working in conjunction with Product Development group to fulfill contractual terms of licensing agreements relating to costumes, wigs, and accessories.
· Facilitating communication by providing periodic design updates, strategy presentations, and participating in cross-functional teams.
· Responsible for showroom and trade show presentations and set up in conjunction with Marketing Director.
· Performing other related company projects as directed.
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion/Apparel Design, or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years professional design experience required with at least 2 years managing and directing a creative team preferred. Solid experience in sales and marketing ideally within a consumer products industry. Import experience preferred with an emphasis on international relations maintaining communication with overseas suppliers and factories. Hands on knowledge of pattern making, garment design and production. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, impeccable attention to detail, excellent ability to communicate with others, and an engaging and self motivating work ethic. Must be deadline conscious with a demonstrated sense of urgency towards meeting timelines and completing customer projects. Ability to manage multiple high priority tasks simultaneously without missing a detail. Understanding of retail price points by market segment with ability to analyze and interpret financial, product performance and sales data. Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are a must.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a textile sample development environment. This involves design and development of costume and accessories through the use of drawing materials, patterning materials, sewing machines, fabric printers, and other design shop related devices.
