The University of the South Pacific's Campus Life Section provides services to students and staff that foster a sense of community and promote physical, social, spiritual and intellectual development, in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, responsibility, and commitment to diversity. The Role(s)

 

Reporting to the Group Manager Campus Life, these two important positions play key strategic roles in providing clients (students and staff) with counselling support and tools to help clients meet their educational, vocational and life goals.  You will provide counselling services for students and staff from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, age, gender, physical and cognitive ability, spirituality and sexual orientation. Each of these counselling positions will undertake additional roles as consultant, programme planner, workshop facilitator, and trainer.

 

The Person

 

To be a successful candidate, you will have a postgraduate qualification in counselling, psychology or social work with demonstrated relevant work experience. Some training and experience in career counselling and development would be an advantage.

You must be a registered psychologist, professional counsellor or social worker with all appropriate professional accreditations or working towards professional accreditations.

To be considered for appointment as Senior Counsellor, you must have made significant progress towards professional accreditations and must have proven experience as a clinical supervisor and administrator in a small professional services unit.

Successful experience delivering counselling services in a higher education environment is highly desirable.

You will have well developed communication, interpersonal, mentoring and presentation skills with a flair for delivering a range of workshops to address relevant personal and academic counselling issues for students and staff.

Successful candidates will demonstrate understanding and commitment to code of conduct, professional ethics and statutory requirements, ensuring ethical behaviour in all dealings and encouraging others to work ethically. They  will demonstrate competence in fostering collaborations with internal and external stakeholders; organisational and time management skills; a proactive approach to day to day counselling activities, building constructive relationships, demonstrating awareness of the Pacific Islands’ cross cutting issues such as gender and poverty inclusive and disability approach; and displaying an intimate understanding of client requirements within a cross-cultural and challenging higher education environment.

 

Remuneration

 

The position is available for three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range:                             Band 3                              F$59 813 to F$78 700 per annum

                                                                                    (Inclusive of 15% gratuity)

 

In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where applicable.
