Responsibilities
- Advice and counsel 1199SEIU members, schools, and other stakeholders regarding training programs, educational and career matters, Tuition Assistance (TA) rules, guidelines, vouchers, and reimbursement application requirements, and other related matters
- Guide members through the admissions intake process by making referrals for testing, assessments and workshops
- Collect, organize, and analyze member information through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources; appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational and educational planning
- Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to aid members in making and carrying out educational objectives; assist with outcomes reports and analyses
- Assist members to develop and upgrade their job search skills that may impact their ability to obtain and retain training and employment. Refer members to appropriate counseling agency as needed
- Collaborate with the Job Security Fund and Employment Center and other department to recruit and place members
- Interface with educational institutions on behalf of members to clarify and support their upgrading goals; work closely with admission counselors, staff and other Funds as necessary to address member needs
- Record members counseling session and progress; generate reports and correspondence as needed
- Conduct, coordinate, facilitate and attend special events at various institutions; such as orientations, 1199SElU chapter meetings, career nights, delegate assemblies, education information sessions, specialized skills workshops, etc
- Update catalog and other promotional materials
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Counseling, Adult Education, Training required or equivalent years of experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred; plus
- Minimum two (2) years experience with adults or returning students in a college or educational setting in at least two of the following areas: career counseling, educational counseling
- Basic skill level of Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with database programs a plus
- Good attention to detail and organization skills
- Great customer service and interpersonal skills
- Available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel to various institutions and sites within the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, and White Plains
- Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality
