Counterparty Credit Analyst recruitment
Purpose of the job:
To conduct credit analysis of a variety of institutions and make proposals regarding counterparty ratings and limit structures to senior management of the Bank. To formulate, in conjunction with the line manager, credit strategy and policy.
Principal accountabilities:
Credit analysis and internal rating system
Conducts detailed analysis of the credit quality of BIS counterparties with a specific focus on the corporate sector. Formulates written proposals and recommendations for counterparty ratings and limit structures for approval by senior management of the Bank. Contributes to the maintenance and adaptation of the Bank’s internal rating methodology.
Counterparty business relationships
Organises and participates in regular meetings with the Bank’s counterparties and maintains contact with these institutions in order to discuss their credit profiles and business strategies.
Credit risk management
Contributes to the development of the general framework for credit analysis, including infrastructure and credit processes, to ensure effective and efficient credit risk management by the Bank.
Compliance and control
Monitors compliance with credit rules and limits related to banking activities. Investigates dealing errors and authorises breaches of credit limits within authority delegated by the line manager. Ensures that appropriate legal documentation is in place to support dealing activity.
Contact with research houses and rating agencies; conferences and seminars
Establishes and maintains contact with rating agency analysts and with banking / risk management research houses. Represents the BIS at international conferences on risk and banking topics.
Risk reporting
Contributes to the production and development of daily credit risk reports for Risk Control and the Banking Department, as well as periodic reporting to Banking management, BIS senior management and the Board.
Product development
Contributes to the development of new Banking Department products and corresponding policy proposals to BIS senior management. Adapts credit polices in area of responsibility accordingly.
Risk Control IT systems
Contributes to the specification and testing of IT solutions for the measurement of credit risk. Investigates exceptions to system processes and liaises with other units to help resolve these issues. Ensures quality and integrity of system-held data.
Special projects
Participates in departmental and/or Bank-wide projects if and when required.
Qualifications and experience required:
- University degree, preferably in finance, business or economics
- Minimum three to five years’ relevant working experience as a credit analyst in a major financial institution and/or rating agency
- CFA or equivalent qualification desirable
Skills required:
- Good understanding of issues relating to financial risk measurement, management and control
- Excellent written and oral English, with another major world language desirable
- Personal initiative, ability to work independently and to meet tight deadlines, organisational skills, multicultural sensitivity
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
The BIS employs staff on both open-ended and fixed-term contracts. However, all new entrants are initially recruited on a fixed-term basis.
