Full Job Description

What does this job involve ?
- Review of counterparty risk management practices within firms. The work involves assessing these practices within regulated firms and assessing banks and investment banks against good risk management standards and international Basel 2 and 3 standards for capital requirements.
- Assessing central counterparties risk management practices against relevant standards.
- Review of counterparty credit risk related aspects of Solvency 2 at insurance firms.
- Assessment of systemic cross-firm counterparty credit risk.
- On-site visits to regulated firms including interviews with staff coupled with desk-based review of documentation, formulation of findings, presenting results within the FSA, in internal reports, and to the firm, via letters and meetings.
- Analysing industry and firm-specific data and following industry trends to inform and deepen the FSA`s understanding and assessment of counterparty risk measurement and counterparty risk management, and contribute to the development of FSA policy and practice for counterparty risk.
- Collaboration with other teams (e.g. market, credit, operational or liquidity risk review teams) to ensure that risks of different natures arising from counterparty relationships across market players are identified and managed consistently.

Essential:
- Substantial industry experience managing counterparty credit risk with an understanding of credit risk exposure measurement.
- A high degree of familiarity with industry practice in counterparty credit risk measurement and management is essential.
- A strong knowledge of OTC derivative instruments and securities-financing transactions such as repos, securities lending and margin lending, as well as prime brokerage.
- Good understanding of the Basel 2 and 3 IMM requirements.
- Work experience related to both OTC derivatives and securities-financing transactions (e.g. repos, securities lending, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills - has the ability to clearly and concisely articulate key messages, tailored appropriately for the intended audience.
- Strong stakeholder management skills - has the ability to influence and challenge as well as building and maintaining relationships with colleagues across RSD and the wider FSA and with senior management at firms.
- Personal accountability - takes proactive responsibility for work, taking action and making decisions when necessary. Builds others trust in own professionalism, expertise and ability to get results. Maintains a focus on issues of key relevance and significance.
