Education:                    High School Diploma or GED

Industry Experience:  One – Two years relative industry experience

Progression:

In order to attain this classification, it is assumed that the Journeyman Level I has demonstrated the necessary skill level and adequately performed all the duties of the prior classification(s).

 

Job Description:

Journeyman Level I perform maintenance and repairs.  With the appropriate experience, training, and supervision, these individuals are able to perform maintenance and repairs to equipment.  They must also possess and demonstrate all of the technical, office and inter-personal skills of the prior classification(s).   

 

Duties:

In addition to the duties of the Apprentice, the Level I Journeyman duties include the following key duties and functions.  These examples do not identify all of the duties performed by this position.

·         Complete basic equipment maintenance and repairs

·         Perform pre and post rental inspections

·         Assist with new unit deliveries and installations

·         Remove and replace basic machine components i.e.:

o       Starter, alternators, water pumps, light fixtures, machine batteries

·         Remove and repair basic machine components

o       Small hydraulic cylinders and pumps

·         Other responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Technician / Shop Foreman / Service Manager 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Technical Skills:

Must have adequate knowledge of equipment to be able to perform the following:

·         Differentiate between different types, brands, and functionality of equipment

·         Understand hydraulic, electrical, and air system principals

·         Understand hydraulic and electric schematics

·         Functional ability to read and understand manufacturer manuals and diagrams

·         Identify and look up parts required for repairs

·         Operate rental equipment

o       Identify and use safe rigging practices

 

Office Skills:

Must be able to perform the following basic office functions:

·         Complete basic office and Service Department forms including:

o       Time cards

o       Field Service reports

o       Accident reports

·         Use two-way communication devices such as phones and hand held radios

·         Use computer, fax, and scanner to communicate with factory technical support

 

Inter-personal Skills:

·         Ability to represent the Company in a professional manner.  This may include wearing Company uniforms.

·         Ability to understand and follow specific instructions as provided by the supervisor designee

·         Ability to communicate and explain equipment repair issues to customers (in person or via phone)

·         Ability to communicate and interact with co-workers, vendors and freight shippers

 

Minimum Requirements or License:

·         Ability to work and function in all reasonable environments including, but not limited to:

o       Rain

o       Snow

o       High temperatures

o       Low temperatures

o       Dusty or muddy conditions

o       Remote work areas

·         Must be able to read and write in English at a minimum 8th grade level.

·         Driving requirements will vary based upon state, branch, and specific staffing status.  At the discretion of the HR Manager and Branch Manager, some positions will be exempted from the following driving requirements. 

o       Required to maintain a valid state driver’s license
