Fitch’s financial institutions’ coverage includes not only banks, but also finance and leasing companies, securities firms and asset management organizations. In addition, the group supports dedicated teams for rating specialized securities such as covered bonds. Because of the firm’s recognized strength in this sector, some banks choose Fitch as their sole rating agency, or opt for Fitch and one other rating agency.
Fitch Ratings are looking for an Analyst to join their Financial Institutions team based in Milan or London to focus on rating Italian bank and non-bank financial institutions.
Working in a small team under the supervision of a Senior Director, training will be provided as required. The successful candidate will participate in rating meetings with rated institutions, carry out data analysis and bank research, write credit rating reports in English and present credits to a rating committee. The role holder will also be expected to attend rating committees on banks from other geographic areas, and contribute to rating issues.
It is important that the candidate should be able to work independently while also being a good team player and be able to cope with time pressure and deadlines. Candidates will need to be willing to travel (around 20% of working time).
Person Specification: Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse and interpret published financial statements and maintain Fitch internal financial database.
- Closely follow developments at rated institutions, assessing the potential impact on the rated entity.
- Regularly meet rated institutions to discuss strategy, performance and risk management with senior management.
- Follow sector-wide developments and assess their potential impact on rated institutions, participating in the preparation of special reports.
- Prepare credit rating reports on rated institutions.
- Present credits to internal rating committee.
- Participate in rating committees for other rated financial institutions.
- You should have gained some relevant experience of bank analysis, either in a banking or financial regulatory environment or in an audit firm
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent.
- A balance of incisive numerical and analytical skills, together with an ability to speak and write concise, fluent English (must have experience in writing essays/reports) and both read and conduct meetings in Italian.
- Appropriate post-graduate academic or professional qualifications would be a bonus.
- Some evidence of multicultural experience is preferable.
- Knowledge of the European financial markets would also be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills.
