We are currently seeking an ambitious and highly motivated individual with extensive US Real Estate experience to join the Risk Management Group's credit team in New York.
Purpose of Role
- Assist with the credit review and analysis of real estate transactions recommended by the real estate businesses including new debt and equity transactions primarily in the US and across North America.
- Reporting to the head of US Real Estate Credit, obtain credit approvals from discretion holders located in New York and Sydney.
- Opine on new product or new business approvals and policy changes relevant to the real estate businesses.
- Annual and interim review of existing ~$2BN debt and equity portfolio, outlook of real estate counterparties and general real estate market performance.
- Oversee the evaluation and reporting of exposures.
Key Responsibilities
- Working in partnership with a number of real estate businesses, you will assess a range of complex transactions, from opportunistic higher risk debt and equity positions with appropriate return profiles to lower risk lending, including to support advisory or debt and equity underwriting mandates. Many exposures will be directly secured by real estate assets in the US.
- Work as part of the US credit team in its review of detailed due diligence, including real estate valuations, financial models, market data, third-party reports and legal documentation to form a view on the acceptability of the exposure being proposed.
- You will assist with the structuring of transactions, reviewing legal terms as well as providing general advice and analysis to the business areas. This is a high profile team who deal extensively with senior management and your ability to effectively manage and analyse transactions is key to this role.
Key Experience Required
- 7+ years of US real estate debt and/or equity experience in a large financial institution. Previous experience in a credit role preferred but previous underwriting, origination, and/or valuation expertise will also be highly regarded for those with a strong credit mindset.
- Familiarity with structured products including A / B-note and mezzanine structures required. Experience with fund equity a plus.
- Experience with both balance sheet and CMBS lending is desired. Knowledge of rating agency and B-piece buyer criteria for CMBS and previous workout experience is a plus.
- General cash flow or project lending skills would also be an advantage to a growing transactional credit team.
- Excel and ARGUS skills are desired.
- MBA or Credit training from a "money-center" bank desired.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to build strong, open, dialogue-based relationships with clients and colleagues
- Moderate travel (10-20%) required for site inspections, market due diligence and occasional management meetings
