ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Associate degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent from an accredited school.  Five years or more documented  culinary experience that includes a broad range of food preparation in restaurant, hotel, country club, or health care setting and/or five years of other documented related experience in the food industry.  Experience should include a minimum of  three years culinary industry experiences in three of the following areas of specialization:  A la Carte, Garde Manger, Saucier, Beverage Management, Charcuterie, Ice Carving, International or American Regional Cuisine, Advanced Culinary Competition.  PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Hospitality or related field.  Teaching experience at the college level.  Demonstrated ability to manage time, to meet deadlines and complete projects independently or with little direct supervision.  Excellent planning and organizational skills, computer based skills related to the culinary arts student learning environment.  Ability to advocate for students and promote student involvement while effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success; develop professional relationship with diverse student, faculty, staff, and community at large.

 

SALARY:  $41,463.00 per nine (9) months, plus benefits

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Full-time, tenure track.  Beginning on or about September 1, 2012

 

SPECIAL WORKING HOURS:  Some nights/weekends.

 

TRAVEL REQUIRED:  Student field site visits and professional development.

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, OR QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant certifiable ACF at Certified Culinarian level or higher.  The Certification will be obtained and on file in the department within nine months of employment.  Nueces County Food Manager’s permit or ServSafe Food Protection Management Certification will be required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   Teach competency based courses in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.  Supervise, assess, and evaluate students in classroom, laboratory, and filed environments.  Develop course curriculum and instructional materials and plans, deliver material in class to meet course competencies.  Establish student performance criteria and evaluation.  Ensure the integrity of the program including curriculum development/revision of classes.  Manage the learning environment through accurate record keeping, submitting grades and other reports in a timely fashion and adhering to school and campus policies.  Participation in college committees, graduation and workshops; hold regular office hours; advise and register students in the hospitality program; serve as advisor of Registered Student Organization; develop and maintain relationships with the business community; assist in recruitment of students and marketing of program; other duties as assigned.
