Job Description:
We are looking for a Custom Solutions Architect to act as a point of contact with clients and development teams to design, sell and deliver stable, elegant and operationally sound software solutions. Successful candidates will know how to combine our platforms with off-the-shelf software and custom development to best serve our clients needs. Typical projects may include creating large data systems and integrating them within governmental enterprise environments, scoping and delivering rich web 2.0 applications to K-12 students or designing proofs-of-concepts for research studies. Responsibilities of Custom Solutions Architect:
- Engage and challenge customer requirements to shape and scope software development or IT integration projects. Identify the best architectural choices.
- Estimate development costs and timelines, manage technical risks.
- Lead and mentor a team of developers and establish standard practices.
- Author winning proposals to competitive RFPs.
- Understand all relevant low-level technical details, and participate in the implementation of critical pieces of code.
Requirements of Custom Solutions Architect:
- BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Extremely strong CS fundamentals and analytical abilities, and familiarity with common enterprise architectures and software packages.
- Taste for simplicity and elegance in technical design.
- 5+ years of experience developing applications or data systems.
- 2+ years of experience successfully scoping, estimating and delivering customer-facing applications or IT integration projects.
- Expertise in several programming languages such as C++ or Java as well as OO design.
- Strong command of at least one major commercial or open-source RDBMS.
- Experience with a commercial or open-source BI stack, such as MS Analysis Services or Jasper Preferred.
