The overall responsibilities of the Data Analyst II include the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of clinical, financial and quality data to support hospital and Heart Center leadership, Heart Center Programs and clinical decision-making through regular reporting as well as projects on an ad hoc basis. The Data Analyst II will work directly with members of the Heart Center Leadership, as well as individuals at various levels throughout the organization. In addition, the Data Analyst II will work with external agencies in the management of quality measurement and public reporting efforts. The Data Analyst II should be able to work independently to design and automate new quality metrics and document data requirements according to project specifications.

The Data Analyst II will be responsible to develop SQL/PLSQL queries for data extraction, analysis, and reporting in a SQL/PLSQL 2005 and Oracle environment. Primary tasks involve the interpretation of ad-hoc and industry-standard specifications for the successful extraction of data from relational databases. Programming responsibilities encompass the ability to manipulate and validate downloads to meet internal and external customer needs, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of results reported. Results are to be prepared and presented through Excel, Access, Crystal Report, SAS or Microstrategy formats.

- Receive and interpret requests for data extracts, analyses, and reports from internal customers and external entities at all levels.
- Participate in the development, validation, deployment, implementation, and maintenance of SQL queries for the successful extraction of appropriate data.
- Participate in the development of processes by which requests are made for analytics
- Ensure result set accuracy (QA) to maintain the high quality and integrity of databases.
- Integrate and automate data processes and reporting; promote the transition of reports to an electronic format.
- Prepare reports for internal and external customers for ongoing execution and distribution with the goal of minimal manual manipulation.
- Aid in the development and implementation of systems whereby once developed, key users can access repetitively run reports, data and query’s independent of analyst.
- Develop and maintain documentation and libraries on key processes.
- Focus on customer service and exercise appropriate judgment as necessary. Requires effective verbal and written communication skills to efficiently collect, analyze, and validate information with users.
- Participate in Center for Quality and Safety (CQS) activities as requested

- Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree preferred in one of the following: Public health, epidemiology, Computer Science, MIS or related field. Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience in a healthcare decision support environment (academic medical center environment preferred but not required).
- Requires attention to detail to accomplish critical tasks and understand the impact of results on departments, current systems and the organization as a whole.
- Requires the ability to assess all assigned work and manage time appropriately to meet deadlines; must be highly organized and be able to balance multiple priorities effectively.
- Requires the ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Must be a strong team player with the ability to work well in a dynamic team and matrix environment.
- Must be customer-focused with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with individuals at all levels within institution.
- Experience in various aspects of health services research project management; HIPAA compliance is a plus.

- Preferred 3-4 years demonstrated experience:
- SQL Server databases, with related tools such as Query Analyzer or SSMS
- Oracle databases, with related tools such as pLSQL, Toad
- SSIS, SourceSafe, Crystal Reports
- Relational databases
- Windows 2000/NT Server and Windows XP/2000/98
- Healthcare setting
- Microsoft Office Applications
- Experience with the following is desirable, but not required:
- ICD9 Coding Systems
- Business Intelligence tools, such as MicroStategy

- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to take initiative, embraces challenges, and develops creative solutions.
- Demonstrated expertise in manipulating and interpreting data using clinical, hospital-based, ambulatory, and claims-based databases.
- Extensive experience using data management and reporting tools such as MS Access, MS Excel, and/or SAS.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Able to develop effective relationships with individuals at all levels in a matrix environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to confidentiality polices for sensitive clinical information.
