My client, a Leading Global Investment Management firm with offices globally are looking to recruit for their office based in the US. This particular firm has offices based in Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and London and are looking to globally expand and therefore looking to bring on the most talented technologists/analysts over the next coming year.
Following successful business growth, profits and being extremely well recognised for they’re strength and focus on cutting edge technology are looking for a talented Date Analyst to join their expanding firm. The ideal candidate will be joining a highly skilled front office group of traders/quant’s/technologists within the company.
This is an exciting position that will give the candidate 360’ exposure to not only development, but also to the business, finance and liaising with different global front office business teams on a daily basis.
The successful Data analyst will be heavily involved in the research and supporting of daily market data related operations. This is a technical supporting role with a strong aspect of development focus. The perspective candidate will spend about 70% of time monitoring various data processing applications, trouble shooting market data related issues and help people in other departments in the company to solve specific market data related inquiries. The candidate will spend about 30% of time doing development. The team consists of other Analysts who work alongside the technical team as well as the Quants and Traders and so there is no clear divide between the technical and business side of the firm. The successful candidate will join a team that is comprehensively involved with today’s electronic trading markets and will come on board this trading floor team looking to become an integral part of the firm’s whole operation, improvement, and ongoing design of the automated trading strategies. Whilst the successful candidate will be exceptional in analytical and problem-solving areas, technically they must be solid as the role will require regular communication with the software engineers to perfect existing trading strategies whilst looking to developer new dynamic and innovative strategies as well.
Responsibilities for Data Analyst, Market Data:
• Monitor various market data retrieval applications for possible quality/availability issues and apply fix, or escalating to internal or external parties for further investigation/fix.
• Communicate with users on market data issues and help them to mitigate the resulting effects
• Monitor in house developed data processing applications; those include various raw market data processing applications and trading strategy modeling applications. Ensure input data are available on time and accurate for the applications, and integrity check the resulting output. Perform preliminary investigations and apply recovery measures in case of errors or escalate to relevant parties for further investigation
• Trouble shoot market data related problems, such as data delay, missing data, inaccurate data and coordinate with appropriate party to solve the problem
• Design/implement/enhance data quality checking applications to detect data issues earlier and more accurately
• Help users of market data get familiar with the data content, collaborate with data vendors on clarifying data usage, format etc.
• Collect statistics of various data processing applications, analyze the data for potential performance improvement and detect problems with current set up
• Maintain internal websites, produce reports on various market data related statistics with CGI scripting
Job Requirements for Data Analyst, Market Data:
• Interested in applying technology to real situation, comfortable working in fast paced working environment, detail oriented and capable of performing task under time pressure
• Effective problem solving both independently or as member of team
• Good communication skills: must be fluent in English, spoken and written
• Background in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics; with minimum Bachelor’s degree, masters or above is preferred. Proof of good academic record (such as GPA or other relevant test scores)
• Experienced with working under Linux environment. Proficient with common utilities such as find/grep/awk/sed/ls/cut/cp/tar/ps/ssh etc. Familiar with Vi or Emacs for editing files
• Experienced with scripting language, Perl and shell scripting are required, knowing Python is a plus. This requirement can be dropped/loosened only if candidate shows strong ability in other required skills, and successfully demonstrates he/she can pick up the skill in reasonable timeframe
• Knowledge of C/C++, common algorithms and data structures (binary tree, sorting, etc) and Object Oriented design. Familiar with compilers, debuggers under Linux (gcc, g++, gdb)
• Knowledge of basic statistics/probability, familiar with concepts such as correlation, standard deviation and how to calculate
• Familiar with database operations (with MySQL), including schema building, query, data loading, backup, restore
• Familiar with web site maintenance, web server configuration, CGI (Apache, CSS, HTML, ModPerl/Mason)
